14 cops under scanner for submitting forged papers to get housing loans

AKOLA: As many as 14 policemen are under scanner for submitting applications for housing loan on the basis of forged signatures, sources said. Policemen are eligible to take housing loans at 6% interest rate per annum. They have to file the application to district superintendent of police which later sends them to inspector general of police, Amravati range and then to the director general of police, Maharashtra state for final approval.Sources said that middlemen are active in the deal, who charge something between Rs 25,000 to 30,000 to prepare the cases.Astonishingly, some of cops who wanted to avail housing loans, had put forged signatures of their superiors on the documents. Some even filed back-dated applications to get their loans sanctioned at the earliest.The 14 policemen have now been taken to task at the office of DSP and the indepth report would be submitted to the state government for further action.Nitin Pawar, additional superintendent of police, Akola, who is at present inquiring into the matter, has however, declined to say anything on the issue. A policeman who wants housing loan has to submit an affidavit with the application in the prescribed proforma prepared by the finance department of the state government.The state government provides housing loans to the employees either for housing construction or purchasing of plots for which advance amount is also being paid to the needy employees.
